TAIFA Stars will miss influential midfielder Nizar Khalfan for Saturday’s international friendly match against South Africa after the Canadian side, Vancouver Whitecaps, refused to release him for the national team programme, as it coincides with their league fixture.
Khalfan was among six foreign-based players who received call ups ahead of the African Cup of Nations (Afcon) build-up encounter at the National Stadium.
Others include Danny Mrwanda and Abdi Kasssim (DT Long An, Vietnam), Athuman Machupa (Vasalund IF, Sweden), Idrissa Rajab (Sofapaka, Kenya) and Henry Joseph (Kongsvinger IL, Norway).
