PSI Donates Blood to Dar Bomb Victims

Dar es Salaam, Tuesday February 01, 2011:
PSI/Tanzania employees today donated over 25 units of blood to victims of the recent bomb explosions in Dar es Salaam in which over 20 people were killed and hundreds others injured.

Speaking at the blood donation drive held at PSI’s head office in Dar es Salaam, the organization’s Executive Director Daniel Crapper said the donation was a gesture of support by PSI to the ongoing efforts to assist victims and families of those affected by the explosions.

““Staff and management of PSI/Tanzania are delighted to be supporting a drive to donate blood to help those affected by the recent bomb explosions in Dar es Salaam. We believe that the health and wellness of the community depends not only material support by upon the generosity of those who choose to give the gift of life as well,” Daniel said.

About half of the 201 PSI employees volunteered to donate blood in support of the bomb victims.
Speaking during the occasion a PSI employee and resident of Survey, Mark Kwawe, said the donation presented “an opportunity to show solidarity to fellow Tanzanian citizens affected by the bomb explosions.”

“As a community member, I am touched by the loss of lives, pain and suffering of the residents of Gongo la Mboto and neighbouring suburbs that’s why I am donating blood to assist the victims, another PSI employee, Yahya Telela, said.
