Today
Ed Winter, the CEO of FastJet,and Brown Francis, GM of Fly 540,
announced to the Minister of Transport, Dr. Harrison G. Mwakyembe, that
the first FastJetbase will be Dar es Salaam Tanzania.The first
aircraft, an Airbus A319 with 156 seats, will be operating regional and
domestic flights by early November. The initial routes will be
announced in the next few weeks.
FastJet
PLC is a company listed on the London Stock Exchange. The majority
shareholder is Lohrho PLC who have been successfully conducting business
in Africa for over 100 years. FastJet was launched in conjunction
with easyGroup, headed by Sir Stelios Haji Iaonnou, the founder of
easyJet the most successful European low cost airline which
todaycarries 55m passengers per year.
FastJet
will operate to international standards of safety and reliability,
using the well proven low cost airline model successful throughout the
world. Regional fares will average US$80 one way excluding taxes and
charges with fares for passengers booking early as low as US$20.

the ideal place for our first flights. With an initial focus on East
Africa, Dar es Salaam will be followed by a second base in Nairobi, Kenya, once the A319, which is already approved bythe TCAA, is also approved there.
Once established in East Africa, FastJet has plans to launch in Accra, Ghana and Luanda, Angola.

FastJet will take over the Fly 540 Tanzania operating licence.
