THE government is going to implement a 654bn/- Dar es Salaam national water programme, aimed at increasing water supply in the city and reducing water leakage from 50 to 30 per cent.
The ambitious programme scheduled for completion in 2013 was approved by the government on Monday, according to the Minister for Water, Prof Mark Mwandosya.
Prof Mwandosya said in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday that the government will contribute 80 per cent (526bn/-) while development partners in water sector will contribute 20 per cent (128bn/-).
It is the largest water project to be carried out by the government, followed by Kahama-Lake Victoria water project which cost over 220bn/.
