Dar
es Salaam, December 13, 2015:
Tanzania Breweries Limited Group of Companies was the big winner of the
night as the recipient of 2015 Association of Tanzanian Employers (ATE)
Employer of the Year Award. This
prestigious accolade recognizes the best organization to work for in the country.
Honourable Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa
Majaliwa was the guest of honor at this year’s ATE awards presentation ceremony
which was held at the Mlimani City Conference Centre. TBL which is also the largest tax payer in
the country also scooped the following awards: Best Performance Management;
Leadership and Governance; Human Resources Management Function; Quality and
Productivity; Disability and Inclusiveness and Best Large Enterprise.
Last year the company bagged the
Employee Relations sub-category accolade for achieving an outstanding score in
its employee engagement survey which is also reflected in the company’s
successful track record of retaining its staff at all levels. The award also
recognized TBL’s ability to maintain a healthy management-employee climate.
Speaking at the awards presentation
ceremony, TBL group’s Human Resources Director David Magese said the company
had 2100 employees working across Tanzania in the technical, sales and
distribution, commercial support fields.
The number comprises both temporary and permanent staff.
Magese said his company has a strong and
dynamic reward and recognition scheme - MOTISHA- which as its name implies,
strives to ensure that employees are rewarded fairly and recognized for
outstanding performance. This scheme has been tailor-made to suit the wants and
needs of staff. It has been hugely successful in promoting appreciation and
acknowledgement throughout the business.
He went on to say that TBL has a robust
wellness program that is aimed creating awareness on communicable and
non-communicable diseases to all employees as well as the ways and means in
which they can maintain healthy and productive lifestyles. The program has a
set calendar of events and is run by a trained wellness coordinator, he says.
Magese further said that the various
employee engagement initiatives coupled with the solid performance management
systems at TBL group had been highly effective in the creation of a high
performance driven culture. The system feeds into the training and development
budget, amounting to over 50% of the total annual HR budget. The budget is
greatly skewed towards training and development because these are crucial
interventions for the business as it continuously works to enhance both the
skills and capabilities of its entire staff.
