David Moyes & Owen Coyle: New bosses looking to start the season on a high
Manchester United and Wigan Athletic go in search of the first silverware of the season as they contest the Community Shield.
The
encounter, which returns to Wembley Stadium in 2013, is traditionally
billed as the curtain-raiser to the new campaign, but that is not the
case this time around. Wigan have already taken in one fixture - a 4-0 mauling of Barnsley -
with the Latics having suffered relegation out of the Premier League
shortly after lifting the FA Cup.
A 1-0 victory over Manchester City back in May saw Wigan land their
first major trophy and book a passage into Europe, but it has been a
summer of change at the DW Stadium.........CLICK HERE FOR MORE STORY»
Roberto Martinez, the man who guided them to cup glory, has departed
for Everton and Owen Coyle - who has wasted no time in freshening up his
squad - has inherited the managerial reins.
Wigan are therefore still getting to grips with a new regime, but the same can be said of their weekend opponents.
Manchester United claimed a 20th league title in 2012/13, and their 13th Premier League crown.
They will, however, be led out at Wembley on Sunday by a man charged
with the task of building on that success - rather than the man who has
overseen the vast majority of it.
Sir Alex Ferguson has called time on a glittering career and handed
the baton over to his fellow Scot David Moyes, who will be hoping to see
his reign get off to the best possible start at the home of English
football.
United have prevailed in four of the last six Community Shield
contests, while Wigan are making their bow on this particular stage and
are the first club from outside the top flight to compete for the title
since West Ham United in 1980.SOURCE:SKYSPORTS.COM
