High Commissioner Tajammul Altaf paid a courtesy call on Rt.Hon. Mizengo Kayanza Peter Pinda, Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, on 17 February 2012 at the Prime Minister’s Office.
The
High Commissioner reiterated congratulations from the Prime Minister of
Pakistan to the Tanzanian Prime Minister on his re-election as the
Member of Parliament and re-appointment as the Prime Minister. He
reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Pakistan to promote
bilateral relations in diverse fields, which was clearly manifest from
the re-opening of the Mission in 2009.
The
Prime Minister recalled with appreciation that Pakistan and Tanzania
had historically maintained “long tradition of close, cordial and
cooperative relations.” He appreciated the re-opening of the Mission and
expressed the hope that the coming back of Pakistan would certainly
“open a new chapter” in bilateral relations. He added that Tanzania had
always considered Pakistan as an important partner, which had all along
supported Tanzania. He said he was well aware of “potential and strength
of Pakistan” and believed it could engage with Tanzania in its economic
development and prosperity.
The
Prime Minister and the High Commissioner discussed various proposals of
cooperation. The Prime Minister suggested that the Government of
Pakistan, investors and businessmen should explore the possibilities and
“harness opportunities” in Tanzania for expanding businesses and
investment in the fields of agriculture, education, defence, infrastructure, trade and industry.
